You might be wondering why there is a summer festival in August in Cebu when in fact August is part of the rainy months. Well, just to make things clear “Bon Odori” is a summer festival in Japan since Summer in Japan is from June to August.
Bon Odori (盆踊り), meaning simply Bon dance is a style of dancing performed during Obon. Originally a Nenbutsu folk dance to welcome the spirits of the dead, the style of celebration varies in many aspects from region to region. Each region has a local dance, as well as different music. – Wikipedia
Bon Odori in Cebu is a two-day festival. And this year was actually their 2nd one. I felt really excited that they were going to have another one this year because the first Bon Odori(2014) was really sugoii(amazing)!!! This year though I was not able to attend both days as I hoped I could >///< August 7 & 8, 2015.
I was able to go to the second day(August 8th) but because of work & a 2-hour traffic, I was only able to arrive at the site just minutes before the fireworks, which is actually the closure part of the program. *insert sad musci here 😦
Anyway, that aside I was still able to get a gist of the event’s spectacular Japanese feels, ’cause it turns out I wasn’t the only one that was delayed by the traffic 😀
Moving on…the event was held at Family Park, Talamban. There was un-summer-like weather(rain) 😦 Nonetheless the place was packed with people.
The one in the middle of the photo is like the heart of the Festival somehow like a bonfire where everyone gathers around it, but in Bon Odori they dance around it~ “Bon Odori Dance”
Now, aside from that pretty centerpiece a festival is never complete without FOODS, BOOTHS & STALLS ♥
And what else could make any event more exciting, fun and memorable? Its the people you meet~
Overall? I think really really love it! The rain and traffic I had to go through was all worth it *hahahaha 😀
I wanna send my love and thanks to all the people involved to have the event possible especially the organizers!!! Till next year please~
